This cue evolved from a piece I wrote while demoing for this film. It is comprised largely of a woodwind choir providing the backdrop to a ukulele ostinato.
In this scene we are seeing Nicole Kidman’s character removing all her deceased son’s finger paintings off the fridge and packing up and laundering his clothes - clearly a scene that could easily be scored very morosely. John Cameron Mitchell, the director, had made it clear that my goal was not to be in any way foreboding or melancholy, and instead provide a cautious optimism and warmth.
